New Year is coming, and a lot of us will make New Year resolutions for sure. But between completing those resolutions, either there is an excuse or they wake up every morning saying that they will complete tomorrow. And as the old saying is, tomorrow never comes. Designing Bulls is come up with keys to Smart Goal Setting for 2020!

Do you know what is not a good thing? ‘Failure’. But, you know what is the worst thing is? ‘Not even trying!’ when you take commitment to reach towards your goal, Sometimes the situation comes such that you fail to complete it. People around you try to suppress you. But it does not make you believe that you are a failure.

Before we begin with keys to smart goal setting for 2020, let’s check out what is a goal?

A goal is an idea or desires a person commits to achieve a certain dream. Goals are everything that you want in life. Goals are important for your life as they give you a purpose to live and direction to achieve something big. Now let’s talk about what is goal setting?

Goal setting is a way to identify something that you want and plan how to achieve it. You can have lifestyle goals like you want to travel to a particular country. You can have career goals, to get a promotion or to become a CEO in a company. Or you can have fitness goals, to lose 10 kgs in 3 months.

But, remember to have SMART goals. “Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, Time-bound“.

These are the 5 aspects when you are thinking about your goal and setting it.

Specific 

Your goal should be clear and defined. Don’t get confused while writing it. Make specific goals that how you will achieve it. One of the most aspects of a goal is that it should be specific. When you make your goals specific, you know what you need to achieve and where you want to go. There should be no confusion and doubt when you decide it to achieve and you get focused on it.

Measurable

It is one of the keys to smart goal setting for 2020. Goals have value only if they have been massed over a while. When you set a goal and then you know how much time you gave your efforts in it. You see your goals get completed and that kept you excited and motivated. If you don’t make your goal measurable it will make you demotivated and tough to achieve it. Make your goal measurable (e.g, I want to complete this course beginning from 9th Dec to 29th Dec.)

Actionable

Now if you have set your goals that are specific and measurable but have not started taking action on it, then it is completely a waste of time. Successful people not only set daily goals, but they make sure that they take exact action on it. Don’t waste time just thinking and wishing about a dream and goal. A Goal will never be complete unless you take the right action on it. The key to complete everything is action. Stick to a plan that you made and take action on it.

Realistic

When you decide to take action on your goals, make sure they are realistic and reachable. You cannot promise to bring stars by yourself. Because it’s unrealistic. You should be reachable and can be a match to your core values. It should be considered the chance of success. You should place it on your priority. It not just bring satisfaction to you, but also leads towards happiness and self-esteem. It is good to have a hard goal, but it must be reachable.

Time-bound

Now, you have made a goal that is specific, measurable, actionable and reachable the last step is to make it time-bound. You need to make a plan to achieve it that in how much time you’ll get it done. You have to track your actions and daily progress. It also helps you to make adjustments and changes. Make a diary or planner, write your goal into it. And give it a certain deadline to get it completed and work on it every single day.

Now, the main trouble is What stops you from fulfilling your dreams? 

This question can be answered in many ways, but here we are discussing a few factors that are often said to be reasons behind failures.

5 things that stop you to make it the keys to smart goal setting for 2020!

Negativity

Sometimes we don’t even know what we are thinking unknowingly, but that thinking also makes a lot of difference in our life. Whether we are thinking positively or negatively, it does have an impact on our life. 

Sometimes, we think before completing anything that we can’t do it or we are not able to get it. That is completely wrong. Everything depends on how you think. If you think you can, you are right. And if you think you cannot, you’re right.

Negativity is nothing but a barrier that stops you from moving and ruins everything. It also affects your peace, happiness and even daily routine. It flows from anywhere or any kind of person. But, the good thing is it depends on you how you tackle it and move forward. You need to give up procrastination and start working. Keep a thing in mind, that ‘this’ is the right time to do what you want. Do something small today, but just do it anyway.

Delay

You must have heard yourself giving excuses right? I am not ready yet, I am not in the mood to do it, the weather is not perfect today, will do tomorrow, It is very hard, I am not capable to do it, I am not the right person to do it and so on.

You think that these are just reasons but they are excuses that you are not giving to yourself but your success. These excuses reflect who you are. You need to understand that your tricky mind is giving you the reasons to not do that. But you have to be so smart that you don’t listen to your mind. Don’t do a delay to complete anything. If you have thought of something and you are determined to achieve it, then don’t think too much just do it without any delay.

Perfectionism

Perfectionism is nothing but an illusion. Nothing is perfect in this world. The moon also has stains. Now, that does not mean that you don’t have to do things in the right way. There is a difference between right and perfect. But if you wait for something to be perfect, then you will keep on waiting. Everything has its own beauty, its own way. There is no such thing as a perfect time. Everything is perfect now. Everything is perfect in its own way. Sometimes, people get frustrated because they wish instant results. And because of that, they forget ‘everything takes time’. You need to get understand that everything goes through a process.

So don’t think about perfectionism. Feel gratitude that you have everything and start where you are with what you have and soon you’ll reach what you want. Be patient and trust the process.

Failure

Failure is seen by people with the wrong perception. What is a failure in your terms? Well, in my terms, its just a sign that you’re going wrong or you’re doing it wrong. And what people think is, I am a failure. Everything is finished now. I can’t do this. This is not my cup of tea. This is a completely negative approach. You do not fail when you see failure. You fail when you give up. If you get everything easily then what is fun in that? What success story will you tell people when you reach there? Every person writes their own story. Now he writes the story of standing up or giving up, it depends on him. 

Distractions

We all have distractions in our life. We do have many no doubt. But, the question is Do we listen to those distractions? If not, you’re going right. But if yes, you do listen, it will create huge trouble for you and your life too. You are limiting yourself from the keys to smart goal setting in 2020. Now, there are many types of distractions. The biggest distraction in everyone’s life is ‘people’. It might be your family, might be your relatives, might be your friends. Imagine you are going for some good work or going to start something new and you are told that ‘Don’t do that, you can’t do it.’ And, when it is said, again and again, it makes you think of giving up. This is the fact of life that everyone faces. 

But that’s not true. It is not necessary that your thinking should be met with people. If you dream, and you think that you can achieve it. You can completely achieve it. No one can stop you without your consent. Distractions will come, but it is up to you not to let them dominate you. After all, it is your dream. And only you can achieve it.
